Terms of Use
Plain terms for a small app. Nothing here is unusual, and none of it gives us access to anything of yours.
Last updated: 16 September 2026
The licence
innerstory is licensed to you, not sold. Downloading it from the App Store grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it on Apple devices you own or control, in accordance with Apple’s Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, which applies to this app and is incorporated here by reference.
Your content is yours
Everything you write, record and photograph in innerstory belongs to you. We claim no rights over it whatsoever. We could not exercise such rights if we wanted to: your content is encrypted on your device, and we have no server, no account system and no copy of your data or your key.
No backup, and what that means
innerstory does not upload, sync or back up your content anywhere. If your device is lost, damaged, reset, or the app is deleted, your journal cannot be recovered — not by you and not by us. The export feature in Settings is the only backup mechanism, and keeping those export files safe is your responsibility.
We state this as prominently as we can, in the app, on the front page and here, because it is the single most important thing to understand about how this app works.
Not a medical or therapeutic service
innerstory is a journal. It is not a medical device, not a mental health service, and not a substitute for professional care. It does not diagnose, assess or treat anything, and it deliberately does not interpret your writing back to you. If you are struggling, please speak to a doctor or a qualified professional.
Acceptable use
Use the app lawfully. Do not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile or circumvent its security mechanisms except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits, and do not use it to store material that is unlawful to possess.
Warranty and liability
The app is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of data or other loss arising from your use of the app.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any rights you have under consumer law that cannot lawfully be excluded — including, in Australia, the guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.
Changes
If these terms change, the updated version will be posted here with a new date, and any change that affects what happens to your data will also be described in the app’s release notes.
